Review: Metalcrypt (4/5)
Diamond Head were one of the first new wave of British heavy metal bands. Why they drifted into obscurity I do not know. This is their debut album and is a really good album. They weren’t as heavy as Iron Maiden was on their first two albums, which really makes me wonder why they didn’t get as big as Iron Maiden, since their sound is much more accessible to the average music listener.If I had to describe this album in one word, it would be fun. This is just a really fun album to listen to. With songs like “Sucking My Love” on Lightning to the Nations, you just can’t help but have fun while listening to them. The highlight of the album is the song “Am I Evil?” This is the one song on their album where the band soundsÂ… well to put it simply, evil. The band takes the fun down for this song to write a pounding metal anthem that would have put them right up there with Iron Maiden in terms of heaviness and dark lyrical themes. The rest of the songs on this album are all really good songs that are fun to listen to. They are the type of songs you could listen to on the way to a party, concert, orgy, or even a funeral to try and brighten up your mood. Overall this is a really fun album that is really enjoyable to listen to, however this isn’t a truly must have, just some good fun metal in the NWOBHM style.
